Fender Pawnshop Series and 60th Anniversary Telecaster

September 20, 2011
share

The modular nature of Fender guitars has always made them ripe for customization. Before the early versions of these assembly line instruments became worth the down payment on a house, players could be found changing necks and routing out their Teles and Strats to install fatter-sounding pickups, Floyd Rose bridges, and probably even cigarette lighters.

These days the company offers stock models featuring almost any mod you can think of—and a Custom Shop for the rest—but the new Pawnshop Series Mustang Special, Fender ’72, and, Fender ’51 pay tribute to the experimental spirit of the early years by combining features in ways that Fender might have done, but never did. In this Roundup, we also revisit Fender’s early days with a review of the 60th Anniversary Telecaster. These guitars were tested through several different amps, including a 1967 Fender Super Reverb, Egnater Rebel 30, Orange Tiny Terror, and a ZT Lunchbox.
