The Korean-made Peavey Fury 4 packs pleasant, crowd-pleasing good looks and numerous upscale features into an instrument with impressive sonic versatility. The high-quality satin-chrome hardware was well installed. I liked the bridge, which allowed for either through-bridge or through-body stringing. A close look at the neck revealed well-sanded fret ends and a properly slotted nut. A tobacco sunburst finish perfectly accentuated the top's alluring quilted maple. The Fury was a tad neck-heavy, but its light weight and slim neck garnered universal praise among testers. Slappers will especially appreciate the vast finger-pop space between the neck pickup and fingerboard end.

The Fury 4's Peavey VFL pickups have internal preamps, like EMGs. With both pickups blended and the EQ flat, the pickups emitted a broad-spectrum clarity that sounded elegant and refined. The 3-band EQ is musical, accentuating wisely chosen frequency centers, but it lacked center detents. The Fury 4's volume pot was crackly, but the problem disappeared over time. With our live band, everyone dug the Peavey's powerful and warm sound, particularly with the potent bass knob turned up. The Peavey spoke strongly onstage, with a blooming, thick tone that pleased the booty-craving drummer. The versatile Fury 4 was a hit. Comments: "Big, wide, reggae-fied booty." "Warm and punchy." "A little shy in the mids with the EQ flat, but I easily fixed it with the mid control." "Familiar feel." "Huge dub tone."
