How did you get your gigs with Rod Stewart, Rob Thomas, and Lisa Loeb?
Well, it started with Lisa Loeb back in 2001. I was doing lots of gigs around NYC and caught the attention of Lisa’s bassist, Joe Quigley, who thought I would be a good fit for the band. I wound up joining Lisa’s band doing many tours and shows with her around the world. Dweezil Zappa was also in the band as well. Dweezil’s sister Moon Unit is married to Paul Doucette (Matchbox 20’s original drummer,now guitarist) and Paul saw me play with Lisa. When Matchbox 20 were looking for a new person to be their touring guitarist/keyboardist, they thought of me. This was in 2004 and I’ve been with them ever since. Towards the end of that Matchbox tour, Rob Thomas took me aside and asked me if I would be his musical director and help him in putting together a band for his solo stuff. So I’ve been Rob’s M.D./guitarist/keyboardist/lap-steel player since 2005. During a break from Matchbox/Rob Thomas stuff in ’07, I received a call from Conrad Korsch (Rod Stewart’s bassist) who asked me if I’d be interested in playing for Rod’s “Still the Same” tour that was starting to mount. Much the same way Joe Quigley had seen me play around town, Conrad did as well and thought of recommending me when the slot opened in Rod’s band. I did that gig until Matchbox started up again in ’08. After that tour, I received a call to audition for a new musical Spider Man that Bono and the Edge had written the music for. I auditioned and was chosen to be the guitarist for the show.
