Marnie Stern’s Two-Hand Tap Tactics
Some players wouldn’t touch a two-handed tapping lick with a ten-foot tapping finger. Not Marnie Stern. The creative New York guitarist forged a signature style around—and even scored a record deal with—spirited two-handed licks such as this looped phrase from “Vibrational Match,” a tune from her debut, In Advance of the Broken Arm [Kill Rock Stars]. Dig the mobility of Stern’s tapping finger (her middle finger) and the clever 1st-finger-hammered first-string A (second sixteenth of beat four). For more on the up-and-coming Manhattan guitar tapper, see her profile in this month’s Riffs section.
