Guitar Player Presents Sonny Landreth during New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival at Rock ’n Bowl on April 27th - Win Tickets!
Sonny Landreth just won the GP Reader’s Poll award for Best Slide Guitarist, and GP is stoked to present his show at Mid City Lanes, known internationally as the “Rock ’n Bowl,” a one-of-a-kind entertainment adventure that all travelers to the Crescent City who love live music must experience. GP readers are familiar with Sonny from multiple feature stories in the magazine including a three-part Slide Seminar that culminated in the Lessons section of the May 2007 issue. Associate Editor Jude Gold wrote in the introduction to that series:
“From Delta blues to modern electric slide to his trademark ‘behind the glass’ technique of playing slide notes and fretted notes simultaneously, Sonny Landreth has a near supernatural ability to infuse his music with the most exciting and soulful aspects of every era of slide guitar.”
Landreth is also one of the great tone players on the planet. It’s especially exciting to see him in the region around his Lafayette, LA, home because he’s likely to have his vintage Fender Stratocaster and a Dumble Overdrive Special. Sonny is one of the privileged few who Dumble works with personally, and the wealth of harmonic overtones he rings from that rig is otherworldly.
Finally, you won’t find a warmer vibe than Sonny Landreth. His laid-back demeanor and Southern charm shine through in both his music, and his affable offstage personality.
