Guitar Player is hyped to help Yoshi’s Oakland bring an acoustic icon to the Bay Area’s flagship jazz venue. he general public perhaps best knows Jose Feliciano for his ubiquitous Christmas song “Feliz Navidad,” but among guitar players Feliciano is recognized as a nylon string king. His burning fingerstyle became a household sound when he broke big in 1968 on the strength of a seriously groovy interpretation of the Doors’ “Light My Fire.” Nearly a decade later, the Latin crossover sensation earned a spot in
Guitar Player’s Gallery of the Greats for winning the Best Pop Guitarist category five times. ’Nuff said.
Feliciano performances are rather rare these days, making his two-night stand (one 8pm show each night) at Yoshi’s Oakland on March 7th and 8th extra special.
Guitar Player will be onsite Thursday, March 7th distributing free magazines, as well as free strings and accessories from sponsors D’Addario and Planet Waves. Sell-outs are likely.
