Soldano 44.jpg The base model 44 shown here uses two Sovtek 5881 output tubes to drive a Eminence Legend 12" speaker. The controls are Preamp Gain, Reverb, Bass, Middle, Treble, Presence, and Normal and Lead master volumes—which you can toggle between using the included footswitch. The 44 has a lot of gain potential, so the way to run this amp is to set the Preamp Gain and Lead master control for the level of overdrive and volume you want, and then switch to the Normal master and back off on your guitar volume for rhythm playing. The well-voiced EQ controls make it easy to get happening tones with humbucker or single-coil guitars, and the spring reverb is lush and spacious sounding. The 44 has plenty of volume for stage use and is reasonable easy to carry at 49 lbs. This amp seems like an excellent choice for players who like to get their tones from one well-implemented channel, and numerous options and upgrades are available though Blues City Music (bluescitymusic.com) the sole U.S. distributor for the Soldano 44. Stay tuned for a full review coming soon in GP.
