October 3, 2012
Guitar Player is honored to help Goldenvoice bring Steve Vai to San Francisco. Vai is one of the greatest guitar shredders of all time, a seminal figure in the instrument’s development, a key figure in rock history, and founder of the great guitar-oriented record label, Favored Nations. The label is home to maestros of all stripes including Tommy Emmanuel, Steve Lukather, Eric Johnson, and Larry Carlton.

“I feel very privileged to continue to enjoy the career I’ve been blessed with,” Vai told GP. “The success of Favored Nations is extra-special to me because it feels great to do something that benefits the guitar-playing community at large.”

Vai’s own playing—which includes some of the most unbelievable two-hand tapping and involved harmonic structures ever conjured—has been recognized with a litany of awards, including an even dozen from Guitar Player. Vai’s full discography encompasses more than 60 albums, including many with Frank Zappa, and others from his stints with David Lee Roth and Whitesnake. Vai’s solo highlights include 1990’s groundbreaking Passion and Warfare, and 2007’s Sound Theories Vol. 1 & 2, performed with the Netherlands’ Metropole Orkest.
